Another day in DC

I’m still in DC, still at the Internet Communications Summit. I got to have one of my famous font themed rants in front of the crowd this morning. You read that right. I said FONTS. I’m a believer in proper font discipline. At the end of my rant, there was a round of thunderous applause (no, there wasn’t, there was actually a few voices muttering “but I like Ariel fonts).

This conference is really interesting in view of emerging technologies and such, I even had a really long talk with a guy from Microsoft who really had a nice grasp on open source issues and didn’t try to steal my wallet (a little Microsoft humor there, because he did try to steal my wallet [no, he didn’t]).

Last night the participants were paraded in front of a stack of overdressed vendors. When you have a bunch of web geeks at an Internet get together, it’s pretty hard to find someone in a tie. Except for the vendors. It was amusing to watch the vendors circle the room as the more savvy web wonks made evasive movements to avoid the pitch.
