Take Part In "Lights Off Utah" – TOMORROW NIGHT – September 19th – 9-10 PM

Residents, employers asked to turn off all non-essential lighting from 9-10 PM on Wednesday, September 19
eCube Energy and The Nightside Project are organizing the event, which is similar to a highly successful event held in London three months ago. Other such efforts have been organized in Sydney, Paris, and Rome. Lights Off Utah will be the first event of its kind in North America.
From Mayor Anderson
Mayor Rocky Anderson, in partnership with Lights Off Utah, Salt Lake County, the State of Utah, the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce, and numerous other corporations and community stakeholders, is asking all Salt Lake City residents and employers to turn off all non-essential lighting from 9-10 PM tomorrow (Wednesday), September 19, to raise awareness about energy conservation, efficiency, and sustainability.
“Forty percent of the electricity used in buildings is for lighting,” says Mayor Anderson. “In Utah, over 95% of that electricity is generated by coal-burning power plants which, through the emissions of millions of tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, contribute enormously to global warming. A huge amount of that energy is wasted by failing to turn off the lights in our homes and offices when they are not occupied. To help reduce this tremendous waste, Salt Lake City is proud to support Lights Out Utah. We look forward to a dark sky on September 19th.”
Even Governor Huntsman is on board on this project, therefore, it’s not something that you anti-Rocky types can get your panties in a twist about. See? Win/win.

I’ll be sitting in the dark with you!
Well, a few miles or more away, I’m sure. But, it’ll be dark!
