Most of this is no surprise, but there are a few nuances that I found comical. From Reuters today:
Norway leads and the United States trails on a list of 21 wealthy nations when it comes to environmental policy, according to an annual index by the Washington-based Center for Global Development.
The index looked at such things as global warming gas emissions and low gasoline taxes that encourage consumption when it came to the environment, which is one of seven areas that make up the Commitment to Development Index, or CDI.
Pretty good start so far, but how did Norway do it?
The CDI said Norway’s net greenhouse emissions fell during 1995-2005, the last ten years for which data was available, thanks to steady forest expansion, which absorbs carbon dioxide.
Steady forest expansion. That seems like a great way to make changes to your country’s environmental woes. What about #2?
Norway is followed by Ireland, which scored high, in part because its economy has grown 6.6 percent a year faster than its greenhouse gas emission.
Let me get this straight, if you can increase your GDP, it will offset the damage your country does to the environment? I don’t think I’ve ever seen a mathematical indicator so perfectly suited for the current Occupier in Chief.
Stop Global Warming: Make Tax Cuts for the Rich Permanant!
What do you want to bet that Dana “sassy, White House spokes-fox” Perino has a thing or two to say about this in the next few weeks
