Afternoon's Tunes – Hothouse Flowers

Posted By on October 1, 2007

Welcome back to Ireland. I think we’ll be here for a couple of days.

Hothouse Flowers is what I like to call one of my accident bands. I didn’t find them by myself, and, the first time I hear them, it was background music until I heard the song in the first video below. I remember thinking: “What the hell is that?” Here was a band singing a song that I despise (to this day) and making it very listenable.

Bono gave Hothouse Flowers their first, and penultimate, break. Since I have long believed that Bono can do no wrong-o (except Discotheque, but, much like Highlander II, I pretend it doesn’t exist). Bone saw the Flowers performing on television and that was it. They released their first single, “Love Don’t Work This Way”, on U2′s Mother Records label, which quickly led to a deal with the PolyGram subsidiary London Records.

Anyway, YouTube has almost no Hothouse Flowers content, and what they have is crap, so, I apologize, but, I’m working for free here, since T-Shirt sales are down.
