Jeff, I extend a reasonable offer but you think otherwise.

OK, since this is the only place I seem to be able to communicate with you, here is what we think happened with Baron N13RJ

As you well know, the squat switch on the landing gear prevents the intentional or accidental retracting of the landing gear once the plane has landed. We think the instructor's knee board may have hit the landing gear handle as he was putting his gear away. If you have landed at Ogden airport before you know there are many dips and humps. On one of the humps the aircraft raised up enough to release the squat switch on the mains and the nose gear actuated for a fraction of a second overcoming the over center lock. The nose gear just retracted when I applied the brakes. The mains stayed up throughout as we slid down the runway on the nose. Then the left prop got a real good bite and pulled the plane to the left. Even with full right braking I could not keep the plane from turning left. Then the right landing gear folded in, but the left stayed up. This all happened in maybe 5-8 seconds. The concern was a fuel leak and a fire, but luckily we were spared. The damage was nearly $150,000 and almost 1 year to be repaired. It crippled my little 135 operation plans, and 9/11 killed it.

You can make fun of me if you wish on this issue, but I find nothing funny about it.

This was not a gear up landing, I did nothing wrong, and was completely cleared by the FAA.

See ... that smells of a trick. If I send to you there, you'll consider it an opt-in and we start all over. I only get it at one email address now, instead of three, so, thank you very much, I'll pass.

Actually no Jeff, My newsletter is 100% opt-in. I have no idea what your email address is. I'd be happy to have a side bar anytime, just provide me with your email address, or you can send me one at thespyglass@sent.com

Oh, for hell's sake Mark, could you maybe stay on topic? If you want an answer, try emailing me. You stupid "newsletter" still does, so, give that a try.

I figure you could bounce your landing and toggle the retract mech while you were still pranging? I was making fun of the report language, you tool.

And, no, I don't know where it is in a Beech, my twin time is in a Cessna 310.

Bell - Are you referring to the FAA report itself?
I did not fill out anything. The person who filled out the FAA report was the Instructor who was PIC.
I was under the hood at the time, and had landed the airplane and we were rolling out.

Are you familiar with where the landing gear lever is on a Beech Baron? It's right above the left knee of the instructor.

So I ask you again as a former pilot, how does one retract a landing gear after you have already landed?

Jon Can - I'm not giving advice on investing your money, so I feel no need to scream. Fire up Heartbreak Ridge on your NetFlix and you'll see, ala Clint Eastwood, that you can can be flinty AND militant all at the same time.

Towner - Someday you'll find a glimmer of the delightful nuance of the written language. When you do, go read the FAA report, look at the shitty grammar and you'll find the funny. As to ASCAP, what the hell is hard about ASCAP, aside from the annual payments?

Thomas, I think you are missing a key step in the "worst case scenario" Jeff is describing here:

See, you don't know it's David Koresh teaching your kids until after the school is established easily through the gaping holes in the voucher bill.

It's not a matter of "what community would put up with it" but rather which community will fall victim to the "surprise" first and fastest, thanks to this ill-thought bill.

And as for Ethan's faith in our legislature, it is very quaint. Cute almost. Methinks he hasn't been reading Chris Cannon's Blog

Militant Progressive!?!? You sound more like a late night NPR host, you know the guy with good ideas but is more effective at putting people to sleep than actual punditry.

While I like your ideas, I expect more excitement from JM Bell, Militant progressive.

Other than that, sounds good. Where can I subscribe so I don't miss an episode.

Any by the way, you never explained how an airplane that has landed could retract it's landing gear. I didn't land gear up, so please explain?

Yes, Mark, my ASCAP is all up to date. Leave it to you to come up with a dipshit question like that. And I apologize about the goofy sound. One of my kids spilled Kool-Aid on my good mic, so, I did it all with a cheap headset mic and the flu.

Thomass - I'll ditto Misty's answer.
