First of all - Vote No on Ref 1.

I saw a bunch of Ref 1 supporters on Main Street last night doing a pretty good honk and wave on both sides of the street. I was coming out of Sam Weller and they were screaming and jumping and sticking their signs out in the road. It was obnoxious, but they were harmless and seemed to be having a nice time.

If the reaction they got from drivers down main streetis any indication, Ref 1 is going to get crushed today.

Next - Vote Ralph Becker

Rep Becker is, without one doubt in my mind, the best choice for mayor. Buhler’s “Reasonable Guy” campaign, while well designed, executed and slick, is really no substitute for the truth that Dave is a combative, anti-progressive and vindictive reactionary.

Rep. Becker, on the other hand, is a smart, thoughtful and overwhelmingly competent lawmaker whose record on the hill, as well as his professional life, show him to be a well rounded and level headed man. Salt Lake City is extraordinarily lucky to have a man like Ralph willing to run not only for office, but for the office of Mayor.

Next: Vote Luke Garrott

Look at that Bruce Campbell-like chin

It’s no secret that I am a fan of Mayor Rocky Anderson. I like his fire, I like his conviction and I like his style (that man can wear a suit). So, when Rocky does or says nearly anything, it’s a coin toss between Nancy Saxton and Dave Buhler as to who will make the sprint to the press to complain and attack Rocky first. When I call Dave Buhler a combative, anti-progressive and vindictive reactionary, I could just as easily be talking about Saxton as well.

So, when Rocky writes a letter to Councilperson Saxton that contains the following paragraph, I pay attention:

In instructing a City official to treat a permit matter in a punitive, prejudicial manner, you clearly attempted to improperly influence the building permit process. The approval process for building permits and licenses is designed to be objective and impartial, for the benefit of all City residents. Your interference with administrative personnel and your request for a City official to ignore our permit procedures and a legally binding mediated settlement agreement, as well as your inappropriate demand that administrative staff treat this individual homeowner differently based on your personal opinion, clearly violated the design and intent of the City’s permit process, and is deeply contrary to the City’s core values.

Whatever your bitch with Rocky might be, corruption and crony-ism isn’t it (unless you’re totally mental). Saxton’s habitual attacks on the current mayor are one of the reasons that we at JM Bell and friends, are throwing our nod toward Luke Garrot.

Oh, and, he’s married to a red-head. That shows impeccable foresight and taste. Kudos, Luke.

The other reason is Saxton’s idea that Horse Police will fix Pioneer Park. It’s a one block park. One block. Horse Patrol in Liberty Park? That makes sense, but I think that bicycle cops, motorcycle cops and patrol cops are more than enough for a teeny little park like Pioneer.

PREDICTIONS

I hate doing predictions, but, by request:

Referendum 1: Defeated by 7%

Salt Lake City Mayor: Becker by 12% (shorter than poll margin due to Ref 1 nudge)

Council #4: 50/50, pretty close, but, Garrott by 6%
