Questions of the Day
March 26, 2008
1. McCain is promising a more collaborative approach to foreign policy. If that is a core principle of McCain’s approach to foreign policy, and he prides himself on being a “maverick,” why didn’t he stand up to President Bush’s go-it-alone foreign policies when they were tarnishing America’s reputation and making it more difficult to work with our allies?
2. John McCain told the USA Today that the use of force is the “ultimate last resort” once diplomacy has been exhausted. Why wasn’t he advocating for diplomacy in the run up to the war in Iraq?
3. Does John McCain share General Petraeus’s disappointment that the Iraqis are not making the political progress the surge was supposed to make possible and, if so, how long is he willing to keep our troops there in the absence of progress?
BONUS QUESTION: How does John McCain plan to pay for a $3 trillion war at the same time our economy recovers from $460 billion in losses on Wall Street and he makes the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy permanent?
