McCain vs. McCain / 2000 vs. 2008

Posted By JM Bell on August 8, 2008

I’ve often been heard to say that I miss the McCain of 2000 (you know, before Karl Rove stole his soul). I used to think that, even if I didn’t like most of his votes, he was a man of principle. I haven’t thought that in years, sadly. I remember how proud I was to see him stand up against the hate politics of the Evangelical Right back in 2000, and I’ve seen how he kisses their giant asses now. It’s sad. It’s madning. It’s depressing.

I’m not alone in this.

I think John McCain hit rock bottom in October 2006, when he voted FOR the Torture Bill (aka Military Commissions Act). McCain has done a 180 on almost every issue, it’s true, but that one must have turned the guy inside out– if he’s human.
