The LDS Church – Pretending that they didn’t used to be persecuted weirdos / also raise Brad Pitt’s ire

First, from C & L:
Here is what Brad Pitt had to say about Prop 8:
Because no one has the right to deny another their life, even though they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn’t harm another and because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against Proposition 8.
The Mormon church is getting heavily involved in the campaign. It looks like about 35% of contributions to the other side have come in from Mormons, or at least that is what they are claiming over at this Mormons for 8 website. A high percentage of the large checks are coming from Utah.
Let me just add, to my LDS brothers and sisters, it wasn’t all that long ago that we were hunted, tarred and feathered, and running for our lives out of the Midwest and into the desert of Deseret.
We were (and still are) misunderstood, libeled and persecuted because we aren’t like all the other kids in the park. Look, for example, at what the Southern state Republicans did to Mitt Romney during the primary campaign.
Where does all this hate come from? I know that a lot of my LDS friends who don’t live in Utah are a lot more “judge not lest ye be judged” about the topic of Gay Marriage, but here in the Beehive State the topic brings up a red-faced anger and a sulfurous intolerance that is anything other than Christlike.
Who the hell ARE you to judge?*
When did you decide that YOU knew the Lord’s will better than everyone else?
Do you “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” or do you “Do unto others” because you think that Jesus wants you to do the opposite of everything he taught?
It seems to me that all of places in scripture that you use to justify your hate come BEFORE Jesus showed up to set the record straight, explain what the master plan REALLY was, hit the reset button and then die for our sins.
After all that, ya’ll go back to the parts that, in my opinion, are in the bible to give CONTEXT to the why, what, and how Jesus and his teachings were important; spit on his ministry and soil his sacrifice with your vitriol and petty, ignoble intolerance.
*I am well of aware of the irony of my disgust in the behavior of my church and its members, because I’m being judgemental. I’m pissy, not stupid.

Mormons somehow think, that if they are as hateful of gays as so-called Christians are, these Christians will see them as allies rather than enemies. We’ll see how that works for you guys.
I like this picture, I think it says quite a bit about the situation. (I hope it loads correctly).
awww shucks.
[...] We’ve been over this before so I’m not going to beat this drum right now. Instead, I want to point you over to my friend Jen’s blog where she makes an appeal to send a couple of bucks to the No on 8 campaign. Since she’s not doing something insane like asking me to vote for Cynthia McKinney, I’m jumping on her wagon. [...]
