99 Days of Disaster – Grassroots Mapping the Oil Spill, because the US Media isn’t.

Think about it – BP owned private security have co-opted the local, state and federal law dogs in the states effected by the oil spill to chase off reporters and citizen trying to document the damage being done to the Gulf Coast. The media is, overwhelmingly, slinking away, pants wet, and content to be pushed around by a foreign company on US Soil – leaving only BP to dictate the narration of the disaster and its “effort” for “recovery.”
Let that sink a moment while your head explodes.
Unlike the majority of the spineless 4th estate, some folks are taking matters into their own hands.
From Grassroots Mapping:
We’re helping citizens to use balloons, kites, and other simple and inexpensive tools to produce their own aerial imagery of the spill… documentation that will be essential for environmental and legal use in coming years.
We’re not trying to duplicate the satellite imagery or the flyover data (though we’re helping to coordinate some of the flyovers and trying to make sure the data is publicly accessible). We believe in complete open access to spill imagery and are releasing all imagery into the public domain.
Yikes! What a great idea! Who wants to start a pool for how long it takes before BP gets their hands on a posse of local militia members to start shooting down these kites and balloons?

I’ve said all along that BP is doing a terrific job hiding how bad this really is. It’s next to impossible to get any real information, pictures, or videos. It’s the frakin’ Gulf of Mexico!!
One would think information, in this age, would be easy to come upon, but it’s not. A Google search will reveal what’s on TV and Radio along with a lot of conspiracy theory extremist apocalyptic propaganda. Both of wich are bullshit.
I’d like to believe that life isn’t about money and fear, but it’s not so. The thing is…. I’m guilty. I use oil in my vehicle, I buy plastic, my house has an air conditioner. Everything everybody has is mined, grown, or farmed.
I live my life in conflict with my morals.
