10 Reasons Why “Christians” Think Gay Marriage is Wrong

Posted By on October 7, 2010

From a Facebook Post I stole:

01) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

02) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

03) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

04) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn’t changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can’t marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

05) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britany Spears’ 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

06) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn’t be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren’t full yet, and the world needs more children.

07) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

08) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That’s why we have only one religion in America.

09) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That’s why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven’t adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

Have we as a nation forgotten God? Have we forgotten HE is the One who gives commands, sets the boundaries for His children? We are all His children!
Have we, as a nation, forgotten, that our very founding fathers sought and were given divine help in establishing our constitution and nation?
If we turn our backs on God and what He has set as the standard, what do we have to stand on? If we attempt to throw God out of our lives, out of our nation, out of our world, we will no longer have His blessing.
Yes, we should love all people! There should be no hate! God has commanded it. Perhas we have forgotten that true love is wanting what is best for ALL people.
As a parent, I certainly know that I cannot; will not, give my children everything they want, just because they desire it. Because I have more experience and wisdom than they do, I know that some things they want are not good for them.
Certainly, God, our Father, knows and wants what is best for all of His children, and thus has set up boundaries for us all. He is all wise and understands that we will desire some things that are not good for us. Thus, He has set up boundaries (commandments) for our welfare. It is up to us to trust Him. If we follow Him, we will be blessed; if we turn our backs on God, we can no longer have His blessings.

Just to clarify. Our nation was founded on freedom of religion. Half of our Founding Fathers were Deist, which basically means they worshiped logic. Not God. That quote on the Jefferson Memorial about swearing “upon the altar of god, eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man”? He was against state religion. http://odur.let.rug.nl/~usa/P/tj3/writings/brf/jefl134.htm

      Thank you, and be enlightened.

  2. While I personally advocate privatization of marriage in order to please everybody (gays included)… I think it’s a little strange you didn’t include anything about the Bible in your “10 Reasons.” While there is a lot of truth to the other reasons, avoiding the doctrinal objection to homosexual relationships doesn’t give “Christians” much credit.

    • JM Bell says:

Well, Marc (Fed Farm) – your doctrinal objection doesn’t actually appear until after an angry, anti-mystic and inbred Scottish King rewrote the bible so that he could carry his own personal turf war against his political opponents. THAT is the “bible” you use to find reasons to go all old testament on people different than yourself. The Old Testament … you know, all the shit that happened BEFORE Jesus was sent down to put everything straight and die for all our sins.

Right now it’s the false “Christians” that are doing the most work against “The Different.” Real Christians aren’t “Christians” are. So … I guess you have to take offence where it’s meant.

  3. Nick says:

@Federal Farmer: Are you kidding? You seriously don’t get that this is satire? How can we possibly have a rational debate about this when one side is clearly so stupid?

@msimmons: I’d like to think that your little rant is also satire, but I have a sinking feeling that it’s not, which just highlights the other problem with this debate: even when those against gay marriage aren’t totally stupid, they’re completely irrational.

  4. Ted Andrews says:

Wow! what a buncha angry, closed minded, mean people! Typically, you people refuse to even consider other viewpoints. I hear this kind of mean spirited, small mindedness from a lot of your democrats. Must be sad being so defensive all the time. Sorry for youse guys!

  5. DHEA Dosage says:

i think that gay marriage should be allowed in certain states but not in other states ,`.

  6. Peter Gagnon says:

I think that Polygamy should be allowed but only for me… and I should have access to all your wives. WHO gives a shit what you think, feel, believe, our country has a system of laws that are governed by the rights, needs and desires of everyone… not just you! To oppress one group of people because they are different is wrong, as long as they are not hurting anyone, infringing anyone’s rights or preventing others from living their lives… YOU HAVE NO SAY and shouldn’t. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. You idiots should worry about you and yours and stop worrying about what is happening in someone else’s bedroom!

  7. nikki says:

This is all nonsense. If your GOD you speak of is against this don’t you think since hes the powerful one he would make a stop to it? Obviously gays aren’t hurting anyone. So why do people try to stop it. I am straight, But i have nothing against homosexuals, they are human just as any others whether their colored, gay, white, or christian. I don’t believe in being religious, but that doesn’t mean i would try to shove it down Christians throats. Its a matter of opinion that people need to keep to themselves. Leave be homosexuals, they’re just like you. Except they have different beliefs. WE should worry more of what is coming to are world politic, and disaster wise, not beliefs.
    That is all.
