I’ve read somewhere that in prison, when you’re someone else’s bitch, you have to grab their belt loop. A few years ago, the Telecommunications industry broke a bunch of laws at the request of the federal government.
Now if you asked me who should really have to pay, I’d say every last one of them who [...]

We all have our pet issues, and this is one of mine.
A horse I like to flog, so to speak.
An UNDEAD horse, because it won’t die.
It seems that not even removing the head can stop this monster, so instead, I’m just going to go rent Shaun of the Dead again.
Hey, but while I wait for [...]

When a bill is introduced, and the title includes the word “PRO” in it, my claxons start wailing. When it claims to have “bi-partisan” support, my air raid sirens go off. When the rhetoric includes dire warnings that this ‘new threat’ “undermines the creative spirit that drives our economy”, constitutes “a threat to consumer health [...]

567 years ago, a terrorist named Johannes Gutenberg created a device capable of destroying the very fabric of civilization. This device is far more destructive than any nuclear bomb ever been. It has started wars. It has crumbled empires. It has split, divided, and even destroyed the faith of countless millions. It gave rise to [...]

I’m really sorry. Earlier today I ranted about how the Dems were taking it up the wazoo (again) by offering immunity to corporations who help the government spy on us, and that everything just didn’t make sense. I further suggested that the Dems should be acting like Alpha Dogs, not rolling over for tummy tickles. [...]

It’s like the US has gone crazy. The Republican party is apparently the party for closeted yet violently homophobic gays (I’ll leave it to Jeff to list the more recent developments and big words like “pederasts”, but I think 3 more were ‘outed’ in the past few weeks), and the Democrats are still taking [...]

I continue to watch, with a fair amount of disgust, the antics of Blackwater. An article I saw today claims that Blackwater [mercenaries] [operatives] security guards disarmed a group of US Soldiers after a traffic accident. I don’t know if it’s true, but thankfully, the story says they were Army (*snicker*). Still, I remain indignant.
I’m [...]

Thank you, but the Government of the United States doesn’t need a Congressmen to help the Government of the United States with post attack continuity planning. Especially if you’re on the committee for Homeland Security. … Wait, what? Maybe I’m not reading this right. How about, the government has denied itself access to it’s own [...]

If you don’t follow copyright law (and it’s kid brother ‘intellectual property’ law) in this country, you’re missing out on some good times. Well… good times if you’re a multinational recording/movie/media industry. Long story short, copyright now lasts for the life of the author plus 70 years or so. Unless you extend it. Why so [...]

I’ve been avoiding my first post [no pun intended] for a lot of reasons, but this seems like the way to open. First - let me thank Jeff for allowing me a soapbox upon which to rage pointless. And apologize in advance for making him regret it (that will come in time. Trust me).
I read [...]

This makes me happy.
Several years ago, some big media companies with the help of some big software companies pushed the DMCA (digital millennium copyright act) into law, which prohibits making any technology designed to bypass copyright control measures.
Today, a small company is suing those big companies for violations of said law, claiming that the big [...]
